COMMUNITY DESIGN
THAT’S HEALTHY FOR PEOPLE AND
THE ENVIRONMENT

Brick Yard Station is pedestrian oriented, with an extensive system of walking and biking trails and sidewalks that eliminate the need for automobiles inside the community. Large open green spaces – the “outdoor rooms” of the community – punctuate the land plan, and a large lake with a promenade alongside will be a community focal point. The urban lake is being designed by environmental designers and wildlife biologists to be a living, thriving ecosystem of birds, plants, fish and serenity.

The community is being designed and built following guidelines of the US Green Building Council’s LEED ND (Neighborhood Development) rating system. The developers have also donated seven acres of land to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission for the creation of a public park, next door to the community, at the site of one of America’s earliest dinosaur fossil finds.

Community Features – All Within Walking Distance

  • Distinct neighborhood clusters with multiple housing types
  • Multiple Community Clubhouses, each complete with indoor and outdoor living/ entertaining area, state of the art fitness facility, recreation area and swimming pools. Outdoor amenities will include relaxation and grilling areas.
  • Daily-need convenience retail targeted to the community.
  • Neighborhood commercial space for additional community services such as health care, insurance, etc. and office space for small business.
  • Approximately 1 mile to a large neighborhood shopping facility, over 20 restaurants and a new elementary school.
  • Pocket parks and courtyards within a few hundred feet of every Brick Yard Station home.
  • Central lake with promenade, overlook pier, refurbished grain silo and volleyball court.
  • Extensive trails for biking, running, walking and rollerblading.
  • Adjacent to 2 major parks – 20-acre Maryland Dinosaur Park, 7 acres of which was donated by Jackson-Shaw and a 27-acre regional park with a playground and ball fields.

Brick Yard Station is also located within a few miles of these major public recreation and education facilities virtually unparalleled in the region:
Fairland Regional Park includes more than 150 acres of Prince George’s County parkland and features the Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex, including a gymnastics center, racquetball courts, a weight training center, the Fairland Tennis Bubble, outdoor tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, and a 50-meter indoor swimming pool, The Gardens Ice House (a year-round indoor skating facility) and four lighted softball fields.

Patuxent Research Refuge is 13,000 acres divided into multiple areas the North and South tract open to visitor activities including hunting, fishing, trails, wildlife observation and the National Wildlife Visitor Center.

Environmentally friendly construction, emphasizing energy and resource efficiency, will be a key selling point of Brick Yard Station.
The land plan of Brick Yard Station fully embraces the concept of sustainability – smaller home sites for residents, more shared open space and recreation and immediate access to services and public transit, dramatically curtailing the day-to-day need for an automobile.

  • Energy Star appliances in homes and businesses will reduce energy bills by over 20%.
  • Landscaping using native plant species will reduce water consumption and yearly maintenance.
  • Unique storm water management techniques will manage water quality and quantity onsite, while creating an ecosystem for both wildlife and residents to enjoy and reducing long-term storm water maintenance costs.
  • Use of recycled materials in construction will further reduce the carbon footprint of Brick Yard Station by minimizing new materials produced for construction and the distance the materials have to travel to be used in the construction of the buildings.
  • Comprehensive waste management practices during and after construction will enable builders and residents to more easily recycle materials used onsite.
  • On-going educational information will be provided for residents and businesses to help them understand and promote healthy and environmentally friendly living.
